val_1ofakind says: Like a very sugary candy, this book was good until it wasn't. Year Zero has an absurd premise that is meant to be a silly (it is) social commentary on copyright laws, specifically those regarding the music industry. It's quite amusing at first, the dialogue and characterization are simple and easy to read*. However, that's the problem. With the super breezy fashion it is written in, you know nothing even remotely bad will happen to the protag. Everything that happens to him has... this, "Wow that's absurd, but no doubt he comes out on top", BUT it lacks the, "I wonder how he come out on top" sense of wonderment. It's that lack of wonderment that ultimately dooms the entire story to mediocrity. It's a shame, really. Year Zero would have made an absolutely wonderful novella or novelette, but at 400 pages, its an easy 250 pages too long.*the editor should be applauded, the book flows wonderfully. garc001 says: I enjoyed this book completely. The humor along with the narrator (audible version) was a treat to listen to. I was reminded of Hitchhiker's Guide and Good Omens while following the main character through the zany set of circumstances he found himself in.I was getting burned out on fantasy and sci-fi and I needed a palate cleanser. It's not a lengthy book, so I highly recommend it if you're looking for a funny story that doesn't require too much commitment.MoreLessRead More Read Less

Great book, many twists and turns to make it interesting. I recommend to people with patience, as some parts can become boring, but it's good otherwise!
