After having to deal with a harsh winter, then being literally booted into the hectic drudgery of spring, a tyme was just the thing to shake things loose. And I would have to say the tyme they had for Joanie and Charlie did a bang-up job. The whole affair—though it didn’t end that way—started out as the major happening that spring. Agnes was a good match for John, especially physically: freckle-faced, about the same stubbiness. Her most outstanding feature was her protruding lower lip, which protruded even more after her short speech phrases: “How are youse this evening? Collecting for Joanie and Charlie’s wedding.
