“You did? How long has he been upstairs? They don’t even have a clock down here where I can tell time.”
“Hmmm. Let me check. It’s almost eight-thirty in the morning.”
Jessie began to offer Delilah words of comfort. He walked her through the process of what would happen, or what should happen if she behaved, once she got to court. When that conversation was exhausted there were another few moments of silence between them.
